A never ending journey

1–2 minutes

Tznius is a never-ending journey. You start small and keep learning along the way.

I was 16 when I started my journey. I was young. I had no idea what modesty truly meant. I did not have a lot of guidance around me. I went to the store, bought three pencil skirts and felt incredibly modest. I still wore pants and short-sleeved shirts as well. No 16-year-old is going to break her bank (at least not me) for a whole closet of new clothes. So I took things on slowly, even if I wanted more.

I am 23 now, which means that this journey already took me well over 7 years and I still haven’t stopped learning. I am a lot stronger now than seven years ago. I found my strength and value in modesty. It is only since this (Jewish) year that I started studying the halochos of tznius. A whole world started opening up to me. I was so excited, there was so much I did not know, so much that made sense to me and so much more for character refinement.

I haven’t reached the end, nor will I ever get to the end. There is no end. It is a journey, a never-ending journey. Something we all have to accept. Every journey starts somewhere. We first have to get out of our comfort zone. Wearing skirts and dresses all day might be uncomfortable at first, not something that you’re used to. Only once you step out of your comfort zone and find your comfort in modesty can you truly grow further. Find out what you like and what is within the realms of modesty guidelines. You have to make modesty your own first.

Till the next, take care!
